Mickey Rourke Wants You To Know That ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Is Great & Way Better Than “Marvel Sh*t”

Mickey Rourke is one of the most interesting figures in Hollywood history. He’s gone from being an A-list heartthrob decades ago to basically being out of the business for a while before reappearing in “The Wrestler” and gaining critical acclaim in 2008. And from there, he took that resurgence to land a Marvel Studios role and propel him into the most recent stage of his career, starring in films that are, well, not necessarily blockbusters, to put it mildly. He’s also a very outspoken individual that doesn’t mince words. And so, with that in mind, it’s time to talk about the biggest news to hit Mickey Rourke in a while—his discovery of “Law & Order: SVU.”

In a lengthy post on Instagram, Mickey Rourke opened up to the world to let everyone know that he’s discovered this little show that he wants everyone to watch called “Law & Order: SVU.” He admits that he has never really heard of the show before lockdown, but it has quickly become his go-to workout viewing.

Rourke said that he stumbled across ‘SVU’ “just by accident and curiosity and have to say i’ve never seen such terrific acting ever on television! Each show that i seen and I probably seen a 1000 of them by now the producing is terrific, the direction is top class and most of all i am really impressed with this ensembles of highly talented actors.” (Spelling and grammar are all from Rourke’s social media post, just so you know.)

Ultimately, Rourke is just happy that he found the “Law & Order” series. And at the end of the day, he’s excited to see quality acting on TV and not like the “crap” you would see in Marvel stuff.

He concluded, “i guess if it wasn’t this lockdown most likely i’d never see this show, but since i do all my lifting training in my living room my tv been on whole lockdown and i was able to discover this fabulous show. Respect to all of you,the work that you all do is real acting, not like that crap that all on Marvel shit.” (Again, spelling and grammar is credited to Rourke.)

Obviously, the low-hanging fruit in response to that comment is the fact that Rourke himself appeared in some “Marvel shit” back in 2010 with “Iron Man 2.” Though, to be fair, no one would actually consider what Rourke was doing in that film to be anything that elevated the craft of acting. So, in a way, his comment is actually a fairly self-aware critique, even if it’s unintentional.

So, I guess we should all be happy that Mickey Rourke has found good workout TV with “Law & Order: SVU.” And there are millions that would agree with the words he says about the cast and crew. I mean, there’s a reason the show has been on for more than 20 years, right? Perhaps this is all a ploy to get NBC to call him up and offer him a guest spot on ‘SVU.’ We’ll just have to wait and see.
