For his reports to the world about the Warsaw ghetto and predictions of the defeat of the German armies in Russia, he was arrested by the Nazis and sent to eleven prisons and three concentrations camps, ending at Dachau. He was one of two foreign correspondents accredited to Berlin to have been arrested and put into a concentration camp solely because of journalistic activities.

A fascinating look into the life of the young girl who captivated the heart and mind of easily, the most hated man of the 20th century, quite possibly of all time.
This book really does strive to paint both Eva and Adolf as real people, quite a feat for the author, who spent time at Dachau for his dissent against the regime.
To be honest, Eva was a bit of a brat as a young teen, who does develop into a bit of a bratty young adult, even more so after she meets the dashing young man known as Hitler. Her extravagance, especially at a time of such crushing economic troubles is quite laughable. For her and Hitler did truly behave as if one day Germany would rule the world.
Funny part here....the author mentions numerous photo albums supposedly kept at Berchtesgarden including photos of Hitler, Himmler, Goebbels and the like, and how after the war, Eva's friends and sisters had hoped to retrieve from them any photos of Eva. Of course, at the time, Gun mentions that these photo albums have gone missing never to be seen again. Since then we've learned that four of the albums were taken from Hitler's mansion, known as the Berghof, by a French soldier, with one taken by a soldier from Easy Company of the 101st Airborne Division. It's "taking" is a prominent feature in the documentary "Band of Brothers," which I happened to be watching at the same time I was reading this.

Excelente trabajo de investigación, pensándolo bien Eva es una de las más inofensivas personas que podido conocer a través de un libro.

Nata a Simbach il 6 febbraio 1912, Eva Braun è una ragazza semplice, di buona famiglia. Dopo aver lasciato gli studi in un istituto cattolico femminile, Eva decide di trovare un lavoro per diventare indipendente, seguendo le orme della sorella maggiore, che nel frattempo lavora come segretaria per un dottore.
Trovato un impiego nel piccolo negozio del fotografo Heinrich Hoffmann, il quale lavora anche per un partito politico, Eva si trova ad armeggiare con le fotografie di Adolf che però non lo riconosce, visto che non è interessata alla politica. Quando poi casualmente i due si incontrano ( merito di Hoffmann) tra i due nasce qualcosa. I due avranno una lunga relazione, nonostante la differenza di età (lei ha solo 17 anni lui 40).
Trascorrerà il resto della vita insieme a lui, tra alti e bassi e due tentativi (falliti) di togliersi la vita pur di attirare la sua attenzione.
Già, perché quando il partito accresce il proprio potere, lui inizia a trascurarla.
E se da una parte la trascura sentimentalmente, dall’altra la riempie di beni materiali di ogni genere. Eva vive nel lusso sfrenato tra gioielli, vestiti, auto ... perennemente circondata da gente a suo servizio. La sua superficialità va a pari passo con la povertà e le restrizioni che il popolo e la gente comune deve subire a causa della guerra.
Nel marzo del 1945, le truppe sovietiche entrano a Berlino. Adolf ed Eva si nascondono nel bunker sotto la cancelleria del Reich.
Il 29 aprile, sono in piedi davanti a un ufficiale dello stato civile per sbrigare le formalità del matrimonio.
Nel pomeriggio del 30 aprile 1945,decidono di togliersi la vita insieme.
Questo libro racconta dettagliatamente la vita di Eva, ricostruendo tramite documenti e testimonianze, una biografia della donna che è stata al fianco per anni all’uomo che guidò la Germania con le sue idee antisemite. Ero curiosa di scoprire come si potesse amare così tanto una persona così crudele con idee folli.
⭐️⭐️ Solo perché mi aspettavo qualcosa di più da questo libro.
